Curated explosion

I couldn't resist saving this post for Bonfire night - a collection of fireworks, explosives and packaging curated by colour, shape and size. My final post from the super inspiring Kalender/Wit exhibition in Antwerp.

South bank viewpoint

Sights and sounds along the South bank on a cold sunny Autumn day. Very disappointed with the Sunflower Seeds exhibition by Ai Weiwei at the Tate Modern (see my post here) - problems with dust from the porcelain has meant no-one can actually walk across the floor after all.

Found collections

Collections of found objects - categorised into colours, shapes, materials, size. Memories of places. Used and discarded. Creating beautiful displays in rows, columns, multiples - ordered and thoughtfully placed. Preserved in wooden boxes. Photographed at the Kalender/Wit exhibition at the M HKA gallery, Antwerp.

Studiowork

I visited Camden Arts Centre on Friday to see Eva Hesse: Studiowork, an exhibition of experimental objects and test pieces that were left in the German sculptors studio at the time of her death, sold or given to friends, and have been gathered from public and private collections all over the world for the exhibition. The pieces are made from all kinds of materials such as latex, wire-mesh, sculp-metal, wax and cheesecloth......'they are extremely fragile and rarely travel'.

I love the colours, textures, shapes and surface qualities of the pieces, as single objects or curated in multiples; offering stories, evoking expressions and revealing her imagination. I couldn't take photos inside the exhibition, so here are some images from the accompanying book.

Found reflections

Beautiful reflections+mirrors+multiples+surface+materials seen at Stuart Haygarth's exhibition Found at the Haunch of Venison. I love his use of unexpected materials and the way multiple objects create a whole new aesthetic. Here are some of the mirrored and spectacle pieces, and I'll post his ceramic and plastic work in the next few days.

"Haygarth has spent many years gathering seemingly insignificant items such as ceramic figurines, spectacles, glassware and plastic objects whilst beachcombing, cycling and on excursions to markets and car boot sales. These found materials are then painstakingly organised and inspire the final work through their form, use, tactile qualities and their relationship to light" - Haunch of Venison.

The Book Club

I love the use of multiples at recently opened The Book Club in Shoreditch.

I constantly want to upload beautiful images that I find or interesting exhibitions and designers I come across to share with you all, but I am trying to keep this blog just about my photography and what is seen through my own eyes.

Up north

I'm going back to see my parents for a few days, which will be lovely and relaxing but also means no internet access and therefore no blogging. So will carry on with all my Swedish themes again next Thursday!

I've just come across these beautiful and vibrant shots I took in Milan earlier in the year when I was there for the Furniture Fair. Multiples again!
