Patterns in the round

Japanese packaging and Parisian metal boxes - origami folds, etched and overprinted, translucent rice paper and crackled effects.

Urban fabrics

Yesterday I went to The Papered Parlour in Clapham for the Come Across Stitch event, part of London Design Week. Artist Hannah Hull discussed the way she uses the urban environment as her studio, hanging oversized bunting across terraced houses, draping doilies over skips and wrapping architectural structures with fluorescent yarn. I found some of the pieces using the map, but unfortunately didn't have time to see the skip piece (image from The Papered Parlour).

While searching for the bunting, I came across three different beds that had been thrown out into front gardens, and thought they represented a similar theme to Hulls work - with the pretty interior fabrics contrasting against the textured greys of bricks and concrete.

Merci concept store

Back from another few days in Paris for work and managed to fit in a visit to new concept store Merci (118 Boulevard Beaumarchais). Such a beautiful shop!

Japanese packaging

Some quirky packaging picked up on a research trip to Tokyo last year. I could have spent hours taking photographs in the food halls!

Paris eye candy

A few photos I managed to capture from the hotel-to-metro, metro-to-tradeshow and tradeshow-to-restaurant in Paris at the weekend....all it takes is a bit of creativity and an eagle eye for hunting out colours, textures and curiosities!

Pastel shades of concrete and wooden frames, topsy-turvy grids and cubes of translucent glass, soft squidgy marshmallow, stacked and layering materials (or iced biscuits!), oversized clocks and tatty antique lace curtains.

Paris at the weekend

Going to Paris tomorrow until Sunday for work....hopefully I will have time to wander the streets and soak up a bit of Parisian culture and not be stuck in a tradeshow the whole time!

Autumn/winter 2010/11 collections of intimate and swim fabrics at Interfiliere, lunch with my friend Anita who is exhibiting at Eclat de Mode, hang around Pret-a-Porter for a while and attempt to fit in Maison et Objet...oh, and drink a few Kir Royals as well!
