Between Coming and Going

A little plug for my talented friend Andy Parker who currently has an exhibition called Between Coming and Going at the Light&Wire gallery in LA. Andy sent photographic stickers of various stages of his working progress from his London studio to LA, where the directors of the gallery stuck them to impermanent, discarded objects around the city and photographed them. 'It is this documentation that creates the exhibition; the artwork itself exists only as a temporary, physical gesture'. (Images from the gallery website)

Home still life

Trying to capture fabrics, textures, light and depth at my parents house at the weekend.

Story hotel

Loved the Story Hotel in Stockholm, very creative and cool and definitely the place to be seen for a cocktail or two in the evenings....but the breakfast was my favourite time with hand-painted plates, mismatched egg cups, logo mugs and cereals in embossed coloured glass goblets (very Marimekko). Also very cool is the mirrored lift, spray-painted coat hanger, wooden door headboard, decorative wash basin and patterned tile floors (and the gorgeous Kiehl's toiletries!).

Flower study

Some photographs from the weekend SLR photography course I took part in a couple of weeks ago at the Papered Parlour. Learning how to use manual settings and indoor photography without a flash, depth of field and composition.

Up north

I'm going back to see my parents for a few days, which will be lovely and relaxing but also means no internet access and therefore no blogging. So will carry on with all my Swedish themes again next Thursday!
I've just come across these beautiful and vibrant shots I took in Milan earlier in the year when I was there for the Furniture Fair. Multiples again!

Street graphics

Out and about on the streets of Stockholm: quirky hand-cut borders, black&white photographs, pressed and punched metal, letraset numbers, trompe l'oeil graphics, entwined floral borders, hybrid tin forms, stylised tapestry patterns, painter+decorator frames, silk-screen and digital, overlaid and sprayed colour, photoreal prints, cut-out silhouettes.

Swedish kitsch

So I still have more stories from Sweden, I realise that it was a much more inspiring trip than I first thought! I fell in love with the crazy and kitsch ceramic figurines at the Story Hotel where I was staying - the way they presented them was so modern and cool, and then I started to see them everywhere!

On the Saturday we visited a fantastic little bric-a-brac in Varbeg metro station where I picked up some gorgeous ceramics - a milk jug with stylised geometric trim, decorative tile of a girl with flower-encrusted hair and the most beautiful little horse I have ever seen.

Miniature houses

Came across these beautiful hand-painted miniature houses wandering around Gamla Stan, the Old Town in Stockholm. Not entirely sure what they are for, think they are post boxes that have been painted to represent the houses in the area. Some are more battered and bruised than others!
